Fostering a stronger relationship with God through prayer goes a long way to keep him as the most important thing in our lives. We could give up chocolate, coffee, or alcohol, but if the 40 days go by and we find that we haven't grown in our prayer life, we would have missed the whole point.
The church is open during the day for YOU from 8 am -8 pm for quiet prayer. Confessions are available before or after the Mass. Every Thursday at 6 pm we hold Adoration, Confessions, and Reflection time. We also have other times available for your convenience.
Lent is not just a 40-day self-help season. It's a time for all of us to grow closer to God. Who of our loved ones and friends needs our help? For instance, there will be lots of folks who will begin lent on Wednesday hearing the encouragement to fast and to do penance. We could pray for them, we could offer our spiritual exercises for their benefit. That way, we're taking care not only of ourselves but of our brothers and sisters, too.
Everyone should go to confession during Lent. There will be extra times for greater convenience. If we want to receive Holy Communion at Easter time more worthily, then we should go to confession during Lent. It doesn't matter if it's been years or if the last time was when you were in 2nd grade. Go to confession. Tell your sins. Express your sorrow. Resolve to change your life. And receive the absolution from the priest.
